Sorry!

I'm so sorry for the lack of updates! We've been traveling the last few days toward a joyous Christmas family reunion! I promise to post more after the crazyness dies down.

May you all have blessed Advent!

A pattern!

I'm so excited! I went to JoAnns Fabric with mother today and found a pattern almost exactly what I had pictured!
The longer dress is the one I like, of course...without the slit at the bottom. I'm going to experiment with the sleeves and make them come just past the elbow, move the neckline a little higher and perhaps modify it to have the illusion of an empire waist!

I really do love the customization that sewing offers. I have a hard time finding things in the store that fit my personal tastes, as well as figure. Everything is always a little too tight in the torso and too loose in the waist. *sigh* Women are not long, straight poles! Designers should realize this, and that women today really do need modest yet attractive fashions.

I'm trying to decide on a good fabric for the dress now...any suggestions? I was thinking blue, since it would match my eyes!

O Christmas Tree!

I just love the Advent season! The glory of the Nativity, the sparkle of the Christmas tree, and the gathering together of family and friends just warms my spirit so!

Today we are putting up the Christmas tree, a lovely pine that we cut down from the back of our lot yesterday. I strung popcorn, while my father and brothers worked on the lights. My youngest sister helped my mother bake Christmas cookies (a secret family sugar cookie recipe!).

Christmas always reminds me of how thankful I am for my wonderful family. My father, who works so card to take care of our family. My mother, who gave up her career in a law firm for the greater calling of being a stay at home, homeschooling mom. My older brother, Peter, who has grown into a fine young man (finally home from college in California!). My younger brothers Mark and Jacob who are graduating soon, and my younger sister Bethany, an inspiration to me every day in her quiet spirit. <3

Times like these make me realize what a good choice I made in choosing to be a stay at home daughter, surrounded by my family and being blessed by their wisdom, spirit and guidance!

No pictures today, I am off to put up the Nativity and partake in some of those delicious cookies!

So, dear readers, what is your favorite Christmas tradition?

First Post!

I'm so excited to be blogging! I've never made forays into this field before, but my parents finally have given me permission!

This blog will chronicle my life and thoughts as a stay at home daughter and future homemaker attempting to serve the Lord! I hope you all enjoy reading!

A little about me: I was homeschooled all my life, I love sewing, cooking and everything French! It is my goal to someday learn the language of the French, move to the Parisian countryside and live an idyllic farm life while witnessing to those around me.

I will be posting about my adventures in housekeeping and modesty! First up: I have been working on creating my own line of modest, old fashioned clothes! I think that the older styles are some of the most elegant around, and too many modern designers forsake this in favor of tight pants and short hemlines.

I would love ideas for some modest fashions! I'm currently using this site: http://www.sewmodestclothing.com/ as a helpful instructional guide!

I absolutely loved this dress in the BBC version of Pride & Prejudice. So simple, yet so classic. I love the uncluttered lines.
I would love to do it in a few colors, and find gloves like in this picture! I'd love to hear your ideas if you have any. I just am praying that the Lord will bless me in this. I believe there is a real need for modest yet elegant fashion in today's culture.

Ok, I guess that's all for today! Au revoir!
